Newsletter! 7th November 2009

7 11 2009
Hello my lovelies!

Hope everyone is having a sparkly weekend! :-) We have LOTS of news for everyone this week!

Models:

We had the first round of Fashion Show auditions last week – it was a great turnout and lots of people came along, so if you don’t want to miss out on being part of the Fasion Show, get yourself along to this week’s round of auditions! They will be held this coming Tuesday 10th, come along anytime between 7pm and 10pm, in the Peter Bird Room, Eliot!

Models remember that being part of the society does not give you automatic entry into the Fashion Show!!! Some remember to come and audition.

Due to the auditions, there will yet again be no meeting for the models this week, apologies guys.

From 23rd – 27th November, Kent Union will be running a ‘Love Your Body’ campaign which intends to help people to focus on being comfortable with their own skin, along with sexual health awareness and debating current issues on ‘body image’. We are holding a photo shoot day in Rutherford Bar on the 26th November in conjunction with this campaign, so would be great to see lots of you models there! :-) The shoot is open to anyone, so it would be great if we could have some members of the modelling society to help them out with their posing. Email us if you are interested! ukcphoto@gmail.com

We have had interest from you guys about some general photo shoots, so if anyone has any ideas for a shoot, send us an email and let us know.

Also a bit of bad news, but unfortunately Bekki has stepped down from her position as Modelling Vice President due to personal issues. For the time being, the rest of the committee will be assisting Dan where necessary and we will update everyone in due course about any further decisions from the committee.

Workshop
This week you are back in the darkroom, and this time you are learning how to develop your own film.
Even if you did not get a chance to take and photographs with a film camera, still come along to learn the process, you never know when you may need the knowledge. Please meet at the darkroom at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 5 p.m. on Wednesday PROMPT. If you are to late you will not be allowed into the darkroom, as we not be able to let any light in during the process. If you do not know where the darkroom is, give Mikey a call on 07597506929.

Photography Competition.
We have finally organised an appropriate system! Voting for last weeks competition begun on Friday, and a new topic has begun. While voting for the last topic goes on, the submissions for the next topic will be open at the same time. Voting can be done on the website (link at the end of the newsletter)

This weeks topic is purple. We ask that when you submit your photo that you also submit a topic for next week that will be used if your photography wins!

Trips
We have 2 exciting trips coming up this term…
1. London Photography Exhibition Tour – On the 28th of November we will be heading to London to view different photographic exhibitions on display around London. We will be traveling on the train. It will cost about £25 without a rail card, and about £16 with a rail card, and this includes tube travel. More details will come closer to the time, but expect to be leaving fairly early in the morning.

2. Wingham Zoo – On the 12th of December we will be heading to a local Zoo. Wingham is about 5 miles from Canterbury on the bus that travels to Sandwich. The entrance fee is £8 and bus will cost around £6 (alternatively if you have a bus pass it will not cost you anything). Again, more details will come closer to the time.

Also, Gloda is selling his Canon G9 for £299. The G9 has the option of using manual controls and also has a hot shoe, making it compatible with most flash systems. For more information about the G9, click here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonG9/ . If you are interested in buying this camera, please contact Gloda at gg78@kent.ac.uk
